TREASURER
Eric M. Saul ARPS. DPAGB. BPE2*.

To Secretaries & Treasureres
As already advised the Public Liability Insurance “year” now runs from 1st February to 31st January. Thus, I have to pay premiums to the Insurers by the end of January – this means I MUST have the premiums by 15th January, otherwise there will be a “late fee” of £10 payable, to cover the additional work involved.
I am awaiting details of the premiums and as soon as received the Annual Subscription forms will be despatched together with other information from the Federation Secretary. I would just like to remind you that the Federation Annual Subscription is due on 1st January 2003 anyway.
Your co-operation in attending to this matter promptly is much appreciated as it makes my task easier. For the coming year, every success to you all and “Happy Snapping”

EVENTS SECRETARY
Naomi M. Saul ARPS. DPAGB. BPE2*.

The “Prints for All” day at Bildeston - was another inspiring day, excellently hosted by Ipswich & District Photographic Society. Our sincere thanks are due to Lynda Robinson their Event Co-ordinator and her team of willing helpers ensured that arrangements were handled very efficiently – all of which helped to make the day a success. The speakers and guests were provided with a splendid lunch too, which was very much appreciated and enjoyed.
It is however, disappointing for all those involved in arranging and speaking at these Event days that the attendance seems to be dropping. There is so much to be learned from seeing and hearing about the work of others – especially as they come from outside the region – indeed it is necessary to broaden our horizons and take the opportunity to look for new ideas in our own photography. The dates of Events are advertised very well in advance – so please make a note now of the next Events so that you can attend and see how you can improve/ change your photographs.
Bob Underhill started the day with “Monochrome Miscellany” showing how his work has developed over the years with a number of portraiture and studio images, complemented by a variety of other work too. Bob also explained many of the techniques he used in the darkroom to produce creative effects – all of which was interspersed with a sprinkling of humour – it is so important to remember that photography is fun too!
After lunch John Chamberlin brought us “Something for Everyone” – mostly colour images which he showed in panels of related subjects – mostly Landscapes, Natural History and environmental portraiture. All of which were produced to a very high quality and left us in no doubt as to why John is such a successful national & international exhibitor.
The day was brought to an excellent close with prints from Anne Greiner and Rod Wheelans – their title was “ARPS – Not the Royal” and throughout their talk they gave various suggestions as to the meaning – finally explaining that it meant purely “Anne and Rod’s Picture Show”! Their pictures were in many cases of people and animals in their environment and old cars too – so that the whole scene told a very definite story. They also included a number of studio shots – so simple but beautifully arranged – whether figures studies or flowers.
The day passed all too quickly and left us wishing that there had been time for more.

Our next Event will be “World of Colour” - on 9th March 2003, hosted by St. Neots and District Camera Club at the Priory Centre, St. Neots.
On that occasion the Speakers will be:
Micky Andrews with “The Wildlife of Keoladeo National Park (India)”. I understand that Micky spends several months at a time in the area in which he is photographing and thoroughly researches his subjects so that he can attempt to get the very best possible images of the birds, mammals and insects found there.
You will notice from previous issues of the Bulletin that we advertised an afternoon of Digital demonstrations and advice by Barrie Thomas – but I regret that Barrie has now had to withdraw for personal reasons. I am delighted however to be able to announce that Barry Beckham has agreed to take his place. He will demonstrate via a laptop computer and PC projector and will also be showing some of his own prints. Barry started his photography conventionally, joining a local camera club and becoming involved in all their activities, quickly moving on to development and printing of his own black and white pictures and also shot lots of slides. Barry was then introduced to Photoshop 2.5 by a friend a number of years ago and now works 100% digitally using a Nikon Coolpix and Canon EOS D60.

Our next “Prints for All” - promises to be another stimulating day and will be held at the Latton Bush Centre, Harlow on 2nd November 2003 hosted by Harlow Photographic Society.
The Speakers then will be:
Irene Clarke FRPS EFIAP and Peter Clarke ARPS with a talk entitled “Clarke’s Chromatic Clamjamphrey Mark 2”. They will show mostly colour images on various subjects. They sponsor a school in Nepal, which they visit frequently and a number of pictures taken there will feature in the talk.
After Lunch Leigh Preston FRPS EFIAP MPAGB FIPF will show us Monochrome and Lith Prints under the title “One Glance Away”. Leigh has been involved in photography since 1980 and gained two Fellowships of the Royal Photographic Society one in 1988, the other in 1998. He has had many acceptances in national and international exhibitions and sits on the A & F Distinction Panels. In addition he teaches City and Guilds Photography part time and is a professional black and white printer.
The day will conclude with a talk by Tom Dodd FRPS called “Beyond the Mountain” which displays monochrome and colour work in panels of between 4 & 12 images. Tom is well known for pictures taken on walks in Snowdonia and was the one who discovered Cwm Orthin – his book on which has since aroused great interest amongst photographers.
Finally - please consider whether your Club can help by hosting an Event – I am pleased to say that we have offers and venues booked to March 2004, so can you help with November 2004?
